Who has to register and why?
Some foreign nationals who have conditions on their immigration leave and who are subject to immigration control must report to the local police to register their details. It is a legal requirement to register under the Immigration Regulation Act 1972 (Registration with the police). Failure to register with the police when required to do so risks a fine of £5,000 and/or six months' imprisonment.
You only have to register with the police if you have an endorsement stamp in your passport or biometric identity card which says "Register / Report to the Police".
If you are required to register you should report to York Police Station, Harrogate Police Station or Scarborough Police Station within seven days of arriving in the United Kingdom or within seven days of any changes in your circumstances.
