The York Central Safer Neighbourhood Team is made up of three ward area teams: Clifton, Guildhall and Micklegate. Each team is led by a Sergeant and a number of Police Constables and Police Community Support Officers.
The performance of our teams for the year is measured from 1 April and last year we managed to reduce crime by over 18% with reductions of 51% for auto-crime and 33% for burglary dwelling. Find out more on the local crime updates page.
All three ward teams want to reduce crime in all areas even further this year. We are currently 1.5% down against last years crime figures and we are working very hard with our partner organisations tackling anti-social behaviour and graffiti which have been identified as local priorities through our public consultation processes.
York is a designated Cycling City and has a very high number of cyclists. This is great for the environment and traffic congestion but it provides opportunities for thieves. To combat this we have introduced Operation Spoke. This involves cycles being UV marked with a unique code and the details of the cycle and its owner being entered on a database and linked to Immobilise. This also assists us with reuniting found cycles with their owners. For more information and details of Op Spoke events click on the link below:-

York is one of the major tourist cities in the UK attracting over four million visitors a year and we intend to play an active part in making it a City where people feel safe and want to return to and recommend to friends. To achieve this we have implemented Operation STYLE (Safe Time in York-Lets Enjoy). This is a partnership operation in the city centre involving Safer York Partnership, Street Angels and volunteers. Providing a highly visible presence, providing assistance to the vulnerable and dealing robustly with the people causing or likely to cause trouble.
Under the Policing Pledge we are committed to spending as much of our time on patrol on our areas as possible, providing a high-visibility reassuring presence.
