Whitby Safer Neighbourhood Area

The Whitby Safer Neighbourhoods Team policing area covers a few hundred square miles. The urban centre is the picturesque port town of Whitby which is known both nationally and internationally for its fantastic hospitality and beautiful views. The town still holds an annual regatta which attracts thousands of people to the area. As well as this, there are the world famous Goth weekend events which provide a spectacular atmosphere both for locals and visitors alike. The town also attracts scooter enthusiasts and other groups who enjoy holding events in the area.

Beyond the town boundaries lie the beautiful villages and Moorland which characterise this area. Goathland is famous for being the site of "Aidensfield" from the television series "Heartbeat" and filming regularly takes place in and around the village. Coastal paths wend their way around the cliffs from Whitby down to Scarborough and also North to Sandsend and beyond following the coast up to Staithes.

This is an area which provides a fantastic environment in which to live and work but is also very popular with tourists and visitors.

The reported crime rate is very low indeed which reflects the great sense of community which still exists in the area.
