Police appeal to driver of red car after crash

Police investigating a fatal collision on the A59 near Broughton are appealing for the driver of a red saloon car to come forward.

The collision, in which 55-year-old Stephen Summers from Keighley died, occurred at around 5.15am on Monday 8 November 2010 when his black Kawasaki motorcycle collided with a silver Ford Mondeo, between Broughton Hall and the A59/A56 junction.

The red car which officers would like to trace was travelling along the A59 towards Skipton from the direction of the Lancashire border. The vehicle was driving between two lorries just before the crash and slowed down at the time of the collision.

Sergeant Paul Cording, who is investigating the crash, said: "The driver of the car may be unaware that a collision had taken place. However, they may have important information which could help our investigation.

"The collision occurred early in the morning and the road would not have been too busy at the time. If you are the driver of a red car and were travelling along the A59 between 5am and 5.15am on Monday morning, please contact us as soon as possible."

The driver of the Mondeo, a 32-year-old man from Dewsbury, was arrested in connection with the incident and has been bailed while the investigation continues.

The A59 was closed between the A56/59 roundabout and the A59/A629 roundabout as police conducted investigations into the collision.

The road was reopened at around 12.30pm.
