Detectives in Northallerton are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in the town.
It occurred between 1.30am and 2am on Monday 25 April as the 35-year-old local man was walking across the Memorial Park on Bullamoor Road.
He was approached by a group of four youths who verbally abused him before knocking him to the ground and stealing his pizza.
As a result of the incident the man was knocked unconscious and suffered injuries to his back, neck and head which required hospital treatment.
The only description of the group is that they are aged around 16 and two of them were wearing dark tracksuits and trainers.
Detective Constable Karl Middlemiss, Northallerton CID, said: "This was a vicious and wholly unprovoked attack.
"Thankfully the victim was able to make his way home after he regained consciousness. However, there is no way that the youths could have known the severity of his injuries when they left him. The outcome could have been far more serious.
"I am urging anyone who witnessed the assault or can help to identify the youths involved to contact me as soon as possible."
