Change of permanent address

The Firearms Rules 1998 (together with other relevant provisions set out on a firearm and shotgun certificate) provide that a firearm certificate or a shotgun certificate shall be granted or renewed subject to conditions as outlined on the respective certificates.

Condition (iii)

'the holder of the certificate must, without undue delay, inform the chief officer of police by whom the certificate was granted of any change of their permanent address'.

Procedure

  • If the certificate IS NOT due for renewal, inform the Firearms and Explosives Licensing Department in writing of a change of permanent address. Download a pdf icon Change of Address Form [209kb]
  • Include any current certificates
  • Any change in security arrangements should also be notified.
  • If your new address is outside the North Yorkshire Police area your file will be transferred to the police force where you now live.
  • There will be no fee, unless the original certificate is lost (see Current fees section).
