Detectives investigating a robbery in York are appealing for witnesses and information.
At around midday on Friday 8 July 2011, a 24-year-old local man was crossing the railway footbridge between Hollybank Road and Tadcaster Road, near the Elmbank Hotel, when he became aware that he was being followed by a group of four male youths.
They began throwing sticks at him and asked him for directions.
The victim continued walking but was confronted by one member of the group who grabbed his arm, prised open his hand and stole his black iPhone 3G.
The group, who are all believed to be local and approximately 16-years-old, then made off down Driffield Terrace, in the direction of Love Lane.
The youth who took the victim's phone is described as white, around 5ft 8in tall, with fair skin, blue eyes and short light brown wiry hair. He was wearing a black or navy tracksuit with a stripe down the leg, and a grey t-shirt.
Officers, who have been making enquiries in the area of the incident and reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to trace the offenders, are appealing to members of the public to come forward with information.
Detective Constable Kendra Bamba, of York CID, said: "Although the victim wasn't injured it was still an upsetting experience for him and I am appealing to the public to help identify the youths responsible.
"I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the robbery itself or saw a group of youths in the Tadcaster Road area following the incident.
"I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have been offered a black iPhone for sale recently."
Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact DC Kendra Bamba, of York CID, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12110112971.
