Police are appealing for the public's help following the theft of copper cabling in the Selby area.
A drum containing cable was stolen from an open air storage compound at the Maltings Industrial Estate, Whitley Bridge between 6.30pm on Friday 15 July and 7am on Monday 18 July 2011. The copper is valued at approximately £5,000.
The thieves entered and left the compound via a path that runs alongside a canal adjacent to the industrial estate.
PC Kimberley Copestake, of the Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "Due to the size and weight of the cable that was stolen as well as the difficulty the thieves would have had moving the drum to a road vehicle, it is possible that the they may have used a boat to transport it away from the site.
"I would like to speak to anyone who either witnessed the theft or may have seen people acting suspiciously in the area during the weekend and ask that they contact the police straight away."
If you can assist with this investigation please contact PC Kimberley Copestake at Selby Police Station on 0845 60 60 24 7 quoting reference number 12110119047, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
