Police are appealing for witnesses after the driver of a white van caused substantial damage to an elderly woman's car and left without giving his details.
At around 10.45am on Saturday 23 July, the 78-year-old woman, who was driving a silver Subaru Forrester, had stopped in a lay-by on the A1 southbound carriageway, two miles south of Catterick.
A white van travelling in the same direction collided with the side of her car causing substantial damage to her car and trapped her in the vehicle.
The driver of the white van stopped approximately 200 metres further down the road to inspect the damage to his own vehicle, he then carried on his journey without speaking to the woman or leaving any contact information.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or anyone who can help identify the van driver to come forward.
TC Graham Waller who is investigating the collision said: "I would like to hear from any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may know the van or driver in question.
"Thankfully the lady was uninjured by the collision, but she was understandably very shaken by what has happened.
"The van is described as a white box-type van and may have damage and scrapings of silver paint along one side."
The woman is from the Macclesfield area.
Anyone who has any information is asked to contact TC Waller on 0845 60 60 24 7 quoting reference number 12110122273.
