Police investigate Great Ayton assault

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Great Ayton.

Incident

It occurred on Newton Road next to the Newton Rose public house at around 10.20pm on Sunday 24 July 2011, when a 20-year-old local man was assaulted by a group of youths.

As a result of the assault, the victim received serious facial injuries which required treatment at James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough.

Two local men, aged 16 and 29, who were arrested in connection with the incident have been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.

PC Wayne Whitfield, of the Stokesley Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time or witnessed the assault."
