Update - Police at the scene of serious collision - 15 May 3:45

North Yorkshire Police are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the A65 between Skipton and Addingham.

Update 3.45pm Tuesday 15 May 2012:
The A65 remains closed as officers investigate the collision. It is expected to remain closed until at least 5pm and drivers are asked to avoid the area.

The vehicle has been recovered from the water.

Please note: now it has been removed from the reservoir, the vehicle has been identified as a Land Rover Defender, not a Land Rover Discovery as previously thought.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.

At around 1.20pm today (15 May 2012) a black Land Rover Discovery, heading towards Addington from Skipton, left the road before crashing through a wall and into Chelker Reservoir.

The driver of the vehicle, a woman believed to be in her 50s, and her passenger, an 89-year-old woman, managed to get themselves out of the vehicle to safety.

The driver is believed to have escaped uninjured, however the 89-year-old woman suffered a head injury in the incident. She has been airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment.

The extent of her injuries are unknown at this time.

The road is currently closed in both directions as police conduct their investigations into the collision.
