Gun owners across North Yorkshire and the City of York will be able to apply for firearms licences, renew their existing licence, and obtain advice at the North Yorkshire Police stand.

Dave Coutts, who heads the Firearms Licensing Department, said: "The team will be available to give advice to anyone on firearms licensing issues and will deal with the application for grant, renewal and variation of certificates from residents of North Yorkshire and the City of York.

"This is an innovative way for members of the public to apply for a firearms licence and follows on from similar, successful road-shows we have held in the past.

"Previous events have been very well received by gun owners and we value the opportunity to engage with our customers at events like this. Face-to-face contact helps to improve customer relationships, ensuring we deliver the best possible service we can."

The show lasts for three days from 10 to 12 July 2012 and the team will be present each day. The team are being hosted by the Countryside Alliance on stand 344.

Mr Coutts added: "We are keen to point out that this is not in anyway designed to make it easier to obtain a firearms licence. The same stringent checks apply as if you had applied direct to the force. It is merely a more convenient and customer-focused way of providing a vital service to our largely rural communities."
