Sneak-in thief strikes in Hovingham

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a sneak-in burglary in Hovingham, near Malton.

Incident

Sometime between 3.45pm and 4.15pm on Thursday 12 July 2012 a property in the village was entered through an insecure door and a brown leather purse was stolen.

Officers have been making house to house enquiries in the area and are now appealing to the public for information.

Detective Constable Clair Gascoyne, of Malton CID, said: "I am appealing to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the village of Hovingham around the time of the incident to get in touch with the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.

"Although this is a rare occurrence in the village, I would urge all residents in the area to ensure that their properties are secure at all times.

"This includes keeping all doors and windows locked even when at home or in the garden. Thieves are opportunistic and it is important to make life difficult for them."

Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 - select option 2 - and ask for Clair Gascoyne, or Malton CID.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
