Ryedale hit and run collision investigated

Police investigating a road traffic collision in Ryedale are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Collision

At around 5pm on Wednesday 8 August 2012 a Land Rover defender, towing a trailer laden with poultry crates, was travelling along the B1257 towards Malton when it was overtaken by a silver-coloured Ford near Stonegrave.

As the Ford completed the manoeuvre it hit the front of the Land Rover causing it to swerve and overturn.

The driver of the Ford, which had a 58 registration plate, did not stop at the scene.

Fortunately, the driver of the Land Rover, a 65-year-old man from the Beverley area, was uninjured in the collision.

Traffic Constable Paul Merritt, who is investigating the incident, said: "It is possible that the driver of the Ford is unaware that a collision has taken place, however it is important to the investigation that that person is traced.

"If you were in the area at the time of the incident and witnessed what happened, please get in touch with the police as soon as possible."

Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 - select option 2 - and ask for Paul Merritt or Scarborough Road Policing Group.
