Appeal after woman punched and kicked

Scarborough police are trying to trace vital witnesses who may have information about an assault on a woman.

At around 2am on the morning of Saturday 28 July 2012, a 45-year-old Scarborough woman was walking with a male companion and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog along Westborough in Scarborough.

The woman was assaulted after becoming involved in an altercation with a group of men. The woman sustained substantial face and eye injuries following the assault during which she was punched and kicked in the face.

Following the incident, the victim approached a group of people to ask for help and handed her mobile phone to a woman who was with another group of people near to the train station. The woman rang the police using the victim's phone, but left no contact information.

Police are appealing for the woman and the group of people she was with to contact them as they could have vital information which could assist the investigation. They would also like to hear from anyone else who witnessed the incident.
