New base for Filey police

The future of policing in Filey has been boosted with the opening of a new police office in the town centre.

The new facility was officially opened on 30 August 2012 by Temporary Chief Constable Tim Madgwick, of North Yorkshire Police, and Jane Kenyon, Chairman of North Yorkshire Police Authority.

Last month, Filey Safer Neighbourhood Team moved from the old police station, on Murray Street, into the newly refurbished first floor of the Evron Centre, on John Street.

The move will enable the Force to provide the same policing service for the town in a sustainable building with reduced running costs, while at the same time, reducing our carbon footprint.

The move is part of the Force's Estates Transformation Programme which has seen all of the buildings used by the force, assessed for their current suitability to support the demands of modern policing and sustainability for the future.

So far, 11 new or replacement local police stations or offices have been opened across North Yorkshire and the City of York as part of the programme.

T/CC Madgwick said: "It is always a pleasure to open a new facility which will benefit local communities as we look to improve and streamline our services throughout the force.

"We have been focusing our efforts for some time on making the Force more sustainable and getting closer to local residents by making our officers easily accessible and basing them right in the heart of our communities."

Ms Kenyon added: "In this day of public financial constraint, it remains commendable that, through its prudent financial management and planning, North Yorkshire Police Authority and the Force are able to continue to modernise the facilities of the service for members of the public and officers.

"It is through working in partnership and maximising every opportunity available that we are able to put front line officers and staff into the heart of the communities they serve.

"My thanks extends to everyone involved in making this launch and new facility become a reality and trust that it will continue to serve the residents and visitors of Filey well into the future."

The new police office is open to members of the public Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 12pm and 1pm - 4.30pm.
