New Year's Day Sex Assault In Ripon - Witnesses & Information Sought

Detectives are investigating a serious sexual assault that occurred in Ripon during the early hours of New Year's Day (1 January 2009).

The 17-year-old female victim, who is from Ripon, had met the attacker in the Matrix Nightclub on New Year's Eve.

The serious sexual assault is alleged to have taken place at accommodation in the Old Market Place at some time between 1am and 3.30am.

A 20-year-old man form Harrogate has been arrested in connection with the incident. He was released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.

Harrogate CID is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward as soon as possible.

In particular, officers want to trace three woman who talked to the victim in the Market Place following the attack, and then walked with her back towards the nightclub where she was met by friends.
