It occurred on the A171 Whitby to Guisborough road outside Broadings Farm - the location of the Sunday car boot sale - at about 11.45am on Saturday 15 September 2012.

A black Dodge Calibre car which had been travelling towards Whitby was in collision with a black Honda motorcycle which was being ridden in the same direction.

The male rider of the motorcycle and his female pillion passenger, both from the Norfolk area, were thrown from their machine and sustained serious injuries.

Both were airlifted to James Cook University Hospital at Middlesbrough by the Great North Air Ambulance and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. They remain in a serious condition.

The car driver, a 36-year-old man from the Darlington area, suffered shock but was uninjured.

The road was closed for 4 hours whilst collision investigators examined the road. Local diversions were in place throughout this.

Witnesses to the collision or anyone who recalls seeing either vehicle prior to the collision, have been urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for Neil Campbell.
