Request
I would like to know:
How many unsolved homicides have there been in the force area between January 2010 to the present day?
I’d like the number for each year, and then a cumulative total please.
Response
Extent and Result of Searches to Locate Information
To locate the information relevant to your request searches were conducted within North Yorkshire Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by North Yorkshire Police.
Decision
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you.
North Yorkshire Police have 0 unsolved homicides recorded since 2010.
North Yorkshire Police consider a crime ‘solved’ when an offender has been charged, however if the offender is found not guilty at trial the case will revert back to ‘unsolved’. Furthermore, if an offender is found guilty but later appeals the verdict successfully the case will revert from solved to unsolved. Due to this, the figure for solved and unsolved murders remains fluid.
Please note that systems used for recording information are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. It should be noted therefore that this force’s response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other responses you may receive.
