Request

  1. How many disability hate crimes have been recorded by your police force for the last two financial years – 2020/21 and 2021/22?
  2. How many disability hate crimes were committed by repeat offenders (of a previous disability hate crime) in the last two financial years- 2020/21 and 2021/22?
  3. How many disability hate crimes during each financial year (2020/21 and 2021/22) concerned acts of violence against a person?
  4. How many incidents of disability hate crime were recorded as taking place online in each financial year (2020/21 and 2021/22)?
  5. How many of the recorded disability hate crimes in each financial year (2020/21 and 2021/22) resulted in a charge/summons?
  6. How many of the recorded online disability hate crimes in each financial year (2020/21 and 2021/22) resulted in a charge/summons?

Response

Extent of Searches to Locate Information

Following receipt of your request searches were conducted within North Yorkshire Police to locate relevant information. 

Decision

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you.

  1. North Yorkshire Police recorded 81 Disability hate crimes in 2020/2021 and 107 Disability hate crimes in 2021/2022.
  2. North Yorkshire Police recorded 2 Disability hate crimes in 2020/2021 and 6 Disability hate crimes in 2021/2022 which were committed by a repeat offender.
  3. North Yorkshire Police recorded 38 Disability hate crimes in 2020/2021 and 54 Disability hate crimes in 2021/2022 which concerned violence against a person.
  4. North Yorkshire Police recorded 8 online Disability hate crimes in 2020/2021 and 9 online Disability hate crimes in 2021/2022.
  5. Of the 81 Disability hate crimes recorded in 2020/2021 5 resulted in a charge/summons, 2 are still under investigation.

Of the 107 Disability hate crimes recorded in 2021/2022 1 resulted in a charge/summons, 26 are still under investigation.

  1. Of the 8 online Disability hate crimes recorded in 2020/2021 0 resulted in a charge/summons.

Of the 9 online Disability hate crimes recorded in 2021/2022 0 resulted in a charge/summons, 3 are still under investigation.
