Special initiatives

Operation Bright is a winter campaign run from October to February to identify homes at increased risk of burglary. We then undertake work with residents to ‘target harden’ their properties.

Operation Crescent is a year round initiative in which we work closely with residents and Partner Agencies to tackle crime, anti-social bevhaviour and anti-social vehicle use on a local housing estate.

Operation Hackle works in partnership with local schools to tackle youth nuisance relating to tresspass on educational premises especially during the school holidays. This is to try and combat damage and alcohol use on school premises whilst the premises are closed but also to address any youths unlawfully on school premises causing disruption.

Operation Buckeroo works in partnership with local rangers and concentrates on preventing vehicle crime at beauty spot locations.

Operation Avocado is a winter campaign run during November to December to educate drivers with regards to basic vehicle maintenance during the winter months.

Operation Eyeball is a Christmas campaign which has run a number of years in villages south of Easingwold. Residents from each villages patrol the village on foot between 1800hrs and 2100hrs. This is to try and prevent tea time burglaries on the run up to Christmas.

Operation Appeal works in partnership with Thirsk Auction Mart once a month at the Fur and Feather Auction. This is to try and combat stolen property from all over the North East being put through the Auction. Over the past few years there has been a large quantity of stolen items recovered including a land rover and two Ivor Williams trailers.

Our “Ring the Changes” initiative prevents fraudulent activity amongst local businesses such as shops and banks.

We work closely with Hambleton South Neighbourhood Watch to help set up Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in the Hambleton area. To get more information on the neighbourhood watch schemes in the area visit the Hambleton South Neighbourhood Watch website.

We work hand in hand with local pubs in their PubWatch scheme to reduce night time economy issues. In 2015 – 2016 there have been over a dozen people banned from all pubs in our area.

Our ShopWatch scheme works in conjunction with the North Eastern Retail Crime Partnership to reduce retail crime. All major retailers in the area particpiate in the scheme and through the sharing of information on persistent shoplifters we ensure crime is reduced and the main offenders are identified and dealt with.

We have had significant success with our RuralWatch scheme and have a 30 strong group of dedicated local volunteers whom patrol the area with us several times a month both night and day. These volunteers are our extra eyes and ears and bring a wealth of local knowledge on the area and its people.

Our Anti Fraud and Scam initiative in partnership with Barclays Bank to educate customers about fraud and scam’s frequently used by criminals particularly toward the elderly and vulnerable.
