Appeal for witnesses to a serious collision near Scampston Bridge, West Knapton

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information about a road traffic collision that occurred on A64, near Scampston bridge, West Knapton involving a single vehicle - a GREY SUZUKI SWIFT, which exited the carriageway into a field.

A single vehicle road traffic collision involving a grey Suzuki Swift occurred on Tuesday 31 January 2017 at approximately 4.15pm on the A64, near Scampston Bridge, West Knapton.

We are conducting enquiries and are requesting the public’s assistance to help determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

The 19 year old female driver sustained minor injuries and her passenger – a 21 year old male suffered serious injuries. Both were taken to York District Hospital where the male passenger remains in a stable condition.

The stretch of road was closed for approximately four hours while officers investigated the scene and to allow the vehicle to be recovered. Local diversions were put in place by Highways Agency. The road reopened at 8.15pm.

In particular, we are appealing for information about anyone travelling eastbound and westbound on A64 at Scampston who may have witnessed the collision.
