Police investigating an attempted armed robbery at a shop in York have today released a description of the suspect.

A man entered Holgate Newsagents, on Holgate Road, at around 1.45pm yesterday afternoon and demanded money from the till.

The cashier was threatened with a knife but refused to hand over any money and chased the suspect away from the shop.

The victim was not injured by the knife but suffered minor injuries during the incident.

The suspect, who fled empty-handed, is believed to have made off from the scene on a black mountain bike down Watson Street towards York Station.

He is described as white, in his 20s, of slim build and 5ft 11ins tall. He was wearing a dark grey hooded top with the hood up, blue jeans and a light-coloured ‘snood’ neck scarf which he used to cover his lower face.

Police have been conducting extensive enquiries and the investigation remains ongoing today.
