North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and information following a violent robbery in York.
The incident occurred at approximately 3.40am yesterday (Tuesday 04 April 2022) on Dale Street. A taxi driver was held up at knife point and cash was stolen.
The single passenger robbed the driver and took a bag which contained cash, he then left the vehicle and ran away.
A 26-year-old man from York has been arrested on suspicion of robbery. He is currently helping police with their enquiries and remains in police custody at this time.
Police are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. In particular officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the incident.

Inspector Andrew Godfrey of the York City Neighbourhood Policing team said:
“This incident is unacceptable and an investigation to establish the full circumstances is underway.
“Understandably members of the taxi community are shocked by this incident. I would stress that we currently believe this is an isolated incident and don’t believe there is any wider risk to taxi drivers in the city.”
