As police enquiries continue into a fatal collision on the A684 near Bedale at around 2.40pm on Sunday (10 July 2022) afternoon, the family of the motorcycle rider who died have issued a loving tribute to him.
Gregory Peter Newcombe, 26, from Romanby, Northallerton, was riding his mustard-coloured Harley Davidson motorcycle on the A684 from Bedale towards Crakehall when it was in collision with a bronze-coloured five-door Ford Fiesta that had joined the road from Sinks Lane.
The man driving the Fiesta is assisting the collision investigation.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of Greg on Sunday 10 July 2022. He was a much-loved son, brother and great friend to many.
“We would like to thank the emergency services and passers-by who stopped to help and were with him as he passed away.
“We as a family are very grateful for all the messages of support and sympathy at this very difficult time.”
Witnesses to the collision, motorists with dash-cam footage or anyone who recalls seeing either vehicle prior to the incident, should email [email protected].

Fatal motorcycle collision on A684 near Bedale
North Yorkshire Police is investigating a fatal motorcycle collision on the A684 near Bedale.
It happened at around 2.40pm on Sunday 10 July 2022 at the junction with Sinks Lane.
A man riding a mustard-coloured Harley Davidson motorcycle was travelling on the A684 from Bedale in the direction of Crakehall when the collision occurred with a bronze-coloured five-door Ford Fiesta at the junction of Sinks Lane.
Police, fire, ambulance and an air ambulance attended the location.
Sadly, the rider suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by an air ambulance doctor.
He is aged in his mid-20s. His family have been notified and are receiving support from the police.
The driver of the car is assisting police with the investigation.
The A684 was closed to traffic between Bedale and Crakehall until around 8.30pm while a full collision investigation was undertaken at the scene.
It also allowed for both vehicles to be safely recovered and the road surface to be cleared of debris from the collision.
Local diversions were in place during this time by highways.
