Police are investigating a four-vehicle collision on A19 on the outskirts of York between Shipton by Beningbrough and Skelton.
It happened at around 11.40am today (Wednesday 11 January 2023) and both carriageways were closed while emergency services worked at the scene.
The south-bound carriageway re-opened at 2pm and the north-bound carriageway re-opened at 4.45pm after a white Isuzu water tanker was recovered.
The other vehicles involved are a white Ford Transit van, black Mitsubishi L200, and a flat-bed Ford Transit tipper truck.
The driver of the tanker had to be freed by firefighters and was taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries are believed to be serious but not life threatening.
The other drivers, all men, received treatment from paramedics for less serious injuries.
Witnesses to the collision or motorists with dash-cam footage are urged to make a report via the North Yorkshire Police website or by calling 101.
