Officers investigating the criminal damage incident at Fountains Abbey that took place on Sunday 16 February have made an arrest.
Last night (Wednesday 19 February) a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. He currently remains in police custody.
Thank you to everyone who shared our CCTV appeal yesterday - please can you ensure the CCTV images are removed from all websites and social media accounts.
The graffiti was painted onto the abbey and St Mary's Church. The paint was oil-based meaning considerable damage has been done to the medieval stonework and the National Trust are working to rectify this.
