Men arrested and suspected stolen quad bike recovered near York

Two men have been arrested after police ‘stung’ the tyres of the suspected stolen quad bike they were riding.

At about 2am this morning, Thursday 11 November 2021, a vigilant member of the public reported suspicious activity involving men on a quad bike on land near Wheldrake.

North Yorkshire Police patrols responded immediately, and the NPAS police helicopter flew overhead to help locate the vehicle.

As the quad bike left a field and joined a road, police successfully deployed a stinger device, which deflated its tyres. The two riders were arrested.

A check of the quad bike revealed it had been reported stolen from the Lincolnshire area earlier this year.

Both men, aged in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. One was further arrested on suspicion of drug driving, and driving without insurance. They have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Residents in York and North Yorkshire are encouraged to note down and report any suspicious activity, such as unusual vehicle movements, particularly in rural areas.
