At just after 2am this morning (Wednesday 28 June 2023) officers from North Yorkshire Police’s roads policing group were on routine patrol on the A171 near to Scaling Dam.
Their eagle eyes noticed a Hyundai that was travelling at speed, so they requested it to stop. The driver wasn’t keen and made off from them. A short pursuit commenced and a police firearms unit manged to sting the vehicle. The car was then forced to stop before the driver decided to ram a police vehicle.
Two out of the three occupants fled from the vehicle. A 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft and conspiring to steal a motor vehicle. She currently remains in police custody.
Extensive searches were made in the local area to find the outstanding two occupants which led officers to a quad bike in the middle of a field with its engine running. A police dog unit was brought in which tracked to several discarded items, these included a balaclava and a torch.
Police then spotted a further vehicle in the area acting suspiciously. This vehicle was stopped by officers and a 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to steal a motor vehicle. He also currently remains in police custody.
Enquiries are continuing to locate the two outstanding suspects.
