A VIP welcome for the High Sheriff

North Yorkshire Police was proud to welcome The High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, Clare Granger, earlier this week.

Clare requested the visit to see the type of incidents that the force deals with to help build a greater knowledge on how the police serve communities in North Yorkshire.

The High Sheriff was given a guided tour of our Force Control Room and York custody suite.

Control Room Manager, Jane Larkin, introduced Clare to the dedicated staff who are responsible for answering calls and managing incidents. Jane explained how we prioritise 999 and 101 calls and showed Clare the different systems which assist staff in the management of incidents.

The next stop was custody, Sergeant Paul Crabtree explained to Clare how we process a person in custody. Clare was introduced to the various staff that work within the department including, detention officers, nurses, and Sergeants. The High Sheriff also tested the comfort of one of our cells, thankfully we didn’t lock the door for too long! 

North Yorkshire Police's, Control Room Manager, Jane Larkin said: “The Force Control Room is a fast-paced environment and Clare was genuinely interested in how the different roles play their part in serving the public.

“It was a pleasure to show Clare the great work that our staff do.”

The High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, Clare Granger added:

 “I so enjoyed meeting such a friendly and enthusiastic team of people today and it was so interesting to see the police operation in action. The Control Room was an extremely organised and impressive hive of activity.

“I also loved meeting the nurses at York Custody, they adore their job and spoke so highly of the police in our county”.
