We’ve arrested three men in connection with a burglary and vehicle theft following a police pursuit today.
A sharp-eyed Special Constable in our Roads Policing Group spotted the suspect vehicle on the outskirts of York in the early hours of this morning.
It was believed to be linked to a two-in-one burglary – when thieves break into a house to steal car keys and the vehicle – and we’d been looking for it.
We tried to pull it over near Osbaldwick but the vehicle failed to stop.
An NPAS police helicopter joined the pursuit and we ended it by using a ‘stinger’ – a device we throw across the road to puncture a vehicle’s tyres.
The occupants made off and we searched the area.
Three men, aged 18 to 24 and from Hull and Bradford, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of multiple offences including burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and failing to stop for police.
A machete, hammers an angle grinder and other items often used in burglaries were found during a search of the van.
We also recovered a large amount of cash which was seized.
The suspects have been taken into custody and enquiries are ongoing.
