Three arrests as performance car and stolen items recovered in York

A teenager is in custody after we pursued a car that was stolen in a burglary in York today.

The keys to other vehicles, cash and jewellery was also stolen during the 2-in-1 burglary – when thieves break into a house so they can steal car keys.

We tracked down a high-performance Mercedes that was stolen soon after 4am this morning.

The driver failed to stop, reaching speeds of well over 100mph.

We deployed a stinger to puncture its tyres near Knaresborough, with support from the NPAS police helicopter.

The vehicle crashed on a rounabout and an 18-year-old man from the Hull area was detained and taken into custody, where he remains.

In another incident in York late last night, a man in his 30s from Manchester and a 17-year-old boy from Bradford have been arrested after tools were stolen from a van.

We stopped them and searched their vehicle, which was full of power tools.

They were arrested on suspicion of attempted theft from a vehicle, going equipped for theft, possessing an offensive weapon, motoring offences and the driver tested positive for drug driving.

The investigation is continues today.
