Officers from our Firearms Support Unit (FSU) arrested nine suspects in York over the weekend involving separate stolen car, burglary report and stabbing incidents.
At 9.16pm on Friday (12 July 2024), the Force Control Room received a report about a red car that had been stolen from outside a house on Bellhouse Way in York.
Following enquiries, it was spotted by the FSU patrol at 11.01pm being driven erratically and at excessive speeds on Burton Stone Lane and Haxby Road.
The vehicle failed to stop when the FSU officers activated the blue lights and sirens.
However, it soon came to stop when it crashed on the roundabout of Haxby Road and Haley’s Terrace in the Clifton area of the city.
The officers saw at least three people run from the car towards the Yearsley Swimming Pool car park.
They gave chase on foot and were able to arrest them nearby, including one who was hiding under a parked car.
The local males, aged 20, 17, 17 and 16, have all been released on bail while enquiries continue.
The owner of the car was informed about the arrests and the recovery of the vehicle.

Burglary report...
Not long after at 12.18am on Saturday (13 July), the FSU officers were called to a “burglary in progress” report at a holiday rental property in the Bootham area.
They quickly arrested the suspect, a 29-year-old man from the East Riding of Yorkshire, who was taken into custody for questioning.
It was established that the man had been staying at the property but couldn’t get in, so he tried to smash open the key safe and fire alarm glass.
He was therefore arrested again for criminal damage, but he was later released without charge after the property owners would not support a prosecution.
Stabbing investigation
Events took a more sinister turn at 1.58pm on Sunday (14 July) following a report of a man being attacked by a group of youths on Grosvenor Terrace.
The victim, a local man aged in his 40s, had suffered a wound to his back which required stitches at hospital.
The FSU officers were called to the scene and saw a group of youths running near Scarborough Bridge. Four youths were arrested in connection with the investigation.
Using information received about the incident, the officers also recovered a knife nearby.
The youths have been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.
