It only takes a minute to lock your doors but takes a lot longer to replace your belongings if you become a victim of burglary.
Opportunistic thieves seek out any opening that they can take advantage of, such as doors and windows that are left open or unlocked.

So, our advice is if you’re heading out into the garden or popping across to a neighbour’s, no matter for how long, always make sure all your doors are locked.
We also advise on locking your doors behind you whenever you return home, it reduces the chance of forgetting them later and helps keep burglars out.
During the summer, just like the rest of the year, North Yorkshire Police patrols will be carrying out burglary prevention patrols in communities across the county. We have made dozens of burglary arrests in the last few weeks alone, and we are continuing to work closely with communities on crime prevention initiatives.
