This site is a beta, which means it's a work in progress and we'll be adding more to it over the next few weeks. Your feedback helps us make things better, so please let us know what you think.
Although it’s only on loan to us, this weekend we will be utilising the BMW M1000RR to engage with riders and encourage them to be safe and not sorry.
Once again, we will be out speaking to people of all ages and riding ability to spread the key message which is “Reducing the Risk - Improving the Ride”. We have some stunning scenery in North Yorkshire, and we want everyone who uses the roads this weekend to enjoy their journey but to also get home safely.
Motorcycles make up around 1% of road traffic, but in 2021 accounted for 20% of road fatalities and 12% of road casualties in Great Britain.
This weekend we will be out in force with our police motorbikes and cars. We will be predominantly focusing on engagement, but we will also have a close eye on all vehicles which are using the roads. If we encounter motorists having a clear lack of respect for the law, we will deal with this appropriately.
Inspector Clive Turner from our Roads Policing Group said: “With this being the last Bank Holiday before Christmas, we are expecting our beauty spots and road network to be very busy.
“This operation is one of several different approaches that we have taken this year to engage with the motorcycle community to encourage responsible riding.
“Everyone has the right to use the roads safely and we want all road users to be more considerate of each other, regardless of their vehicle choice.”
