We can now update you on the arrests that we made in connection with a planned climate camp at Drax Power Station near Selby.
On Wednesday night, 22 individuals were arrested for public order offences relating to interference with key national infrastructure. Today (Friday 09 August 2024) all 22 have been released on bail with conditions which prevent them from entering a 25km radius around Drax Power Station.
Since Wednesday, we have made three further arrests for public order offences in connection with Drax. All three have also been released on bail.
The Silver Commander for this operation, Superintendent Ed Haywood-Noble, from North Yorkshire Police said: “Whilst a number of people have been released on bail our enquiries into criminality continue.
“The right to peaceful protest is part of UK Democracy. We act with impartiality and in line with the law and authorised professional practice.
“I would like to reassure the public that we are not complacent, a large police presence will remain in place in the area around Drax to ensure that disruption to our communities and operations at Drax Power station is kept to a minimum.
“Finally, I would urge members of the local community to remain vigilant, if you see anything suspicious then please contact us on 101 or 999.”
