Arrests after two stolen vehicles recovered in early hours of this morning

We’ve arrested three suspected car thieves, one suspected drink driver and recovered two stolen vehicles - and all since midnight.

 

Just after midnight we spotted a BMW on fake numberplates travelling at speed on rural routes a few miles south of Harrogate.

 

The occupants abandoned it and ran away.

 

Our enquiries confirmed it had been stolen from Leeds and led us to another vehicle which was stopped a short time later.

 

We arrested two men in their 30s from Bradford on suspicion of vehicle theft and they've been taken into custody. The car has been recovered.

 

A 17-year-old has also been arrested this morning after a car was stolen from a village nearby shortly after.

 

We tracked it into West Yorkshire, where it was located and recovered by police and the youth was taken into custody.

 

It was a team effort involving our roads policing team, rural task force, operational support unit, control room and other teams all working together during the closing hours of Operation Tornado yesterday.

 

The operation brought resources together for a crime-reducing intensification day in the Harrogate and Craven area.

 

The same road policing officers also arrested a suspected drink driver after a car crashed into Valley Gardens in Harrogate.

 

A man in his 30s was arrested and investigations into all of the above incidents are ongoing today.
