A 50-year-old man from Pontefract in West Yorkshire has been arrested on suspicion of committing a trio of North Yorkshire house burglaries in the past couple of weeks.
The burglaries happened between the 30 October and 9 November, and the homes targeted were all in the Birkin area. The suspect left the victim’s homes in disarray following the incidents, during which he stole many Items of personal value including expensive watches and jewellery.
Officers managed to identify the suspect when stolen items were offered for sale, and he was arrested yesterday by West Yorkshire Police, Monday 11 November at 12.55pm, for burglary of dwellings with intent to steal. He currently remains in North Yorkshire Police custody.
Some more positive news is that many of the stolen items have now been recovered and will be returned to their rightful owners.
Ed Haywood-Noble, Superintendent of York & Selby Command, comments:
“We understand how upsetting it is to have your home broken into and the lasting impact that it has on victims. We take these crimes very seriously and work hard to identify and locate offenders, and hold them to account.
At North Yorkshire Police we also focus on helping to prevent these incidents, by working jointly with partner agencies, conducting targeted neighbourhood patrols as well as other activity to deter offenders, such as improved lighting.
It is especially important at this time of year, with the long dark nights, to check your home security. Make sure that doors are locked, and that doorbell cameras are working. Also please be vigilant, if you see anyone acting suspiciously, report it promptly so that we can deal with it.”
