Police visit 100 homes during burglary investigation in a Craven village

Main article content

News
Published: 16:12 12/12/2024

We’ve been gathering evidence and speaking to residents during burglary patrols in Sutton-in-Craven today.

A house was burgled overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

Thieves took car keys but did not manage to make off with the vehicle.

Several other attempted burglaries in the village have since come to light after residents checked their security footage.

We responded to the initial report, and today our Neighbourhood Policing Team has been in the area to:

  • Carry out door-to-door enquiries, speaking to dozens of residents
  • Visit around 100 addresses in the village to leave a letter, alerting residents to the incidents and urging them to submit CCTV or doorbell footage and report any other information
  • Share crime prevention advice, including leaving a light on when you’re not in and keeping doors locked even if you’re in the house
  • Helping people to sign up to North Yorkshire Community Messaging so they get crime alerts and crime prevention advice by email. Find out more and join at North Yorkshire Community Messaging | North Yorkshire Police
  • Listen to any other concerns and gathering information about any other crime in the area

Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Neil Sisson said: “We’ve spoken to a large number of residents today who are understandably concerned about the recent incidents in their community.

“I’d like to reassure them that we’re pursuing all lines of enquiry in this investigation and will continue to work closely with the community to ensure people feel and stay safe.

“If you have video footage or information that could help and we’ve yet to speak to you, please do get in touch. A small piece of information could make a big difference.”

Please email [email protected] or call us on 101 if you have information. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Please provide reference NYP11122024-0038.

You can also submit footage directly to our investigation using our new NICE system.

If you haven’t registered your CCTV or video doorbell on NICE yet, we can help you get set up in three easy steps – just follow the link for instructions: Digital evidence | North Yorkshire Police
