This latest arrest follows a number of burglaries in the city centre targeting our small businesses including gift shops, cafes and restaurants.
In the early hours of yesterday morning (27 January), a 30-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, both from York, were arrested on suspicion of burglary following a burglary at Pairings wine bar on Castlegate in York.
They remain in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Emma Newton of our City and Selby CID team said: "Burglary has a significant impact on our city centre businesses, disrupting livelihoods and causing immeasurable stress to their owners. We understand the importance of businesses and our community feeling safe in our city.
"Our officers are working tirelessly to tackle crime head on, gather intelligence and bring those to justice.
"Please continue to report any suspicious activity, people or vehicles to us on 101. If you see a crime happening, always call us on 999 as this gives us the best chance of finding the suspects in the act."
