A driver has been arrested after failing to stop for the police – before his vehicle ran out of fuel a short time later.
North Yorkshire Police officers were on proactive patrol in the Sherburn-in-Elmet area shortly after 10.30pm on Thursday 9 January 2025.
They came across a white Mercedes Sprinter van in suspicious circumstances, whose driver failed to stop when the police following them activated their car’s blue lights and siren.
However, within five minutes the van came to a halt, apparently having run out of fuel.
Checks revealed the van was uninsured, and had no MOT. The driver – a man in his 30s from the Kirklees area – was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, and driving with no insurance or MOT.
He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
