Shortly before 11.30am today (Thursday 20 February), officers attempted to stop a VW polo on Eastfield Avenue in Haxby. It failed to stop and was pursued by officers into New Earswick.
The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby allotments, but officers were hot on his heels and he was detained a short time later.
A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit due to alcohol or drugs, driving whilst disqualified, driving with no insurance, possession with the intent to supply a Class A drug, dangerous driving and failing to stop.
Inside the car officers found a large quantity of what is suspected to be a Class A-drugs.
