Last night (Thursday 06 March 2025) at 10.30pm a Ford Mondeo in blue caught the attention of our roads policing officers in Selby town centre. As the driver noticed us behind the vehicle it failed to stop out of Selby towards Osgodby.
The suspect driver continued to exceed the speed limit, driving through crossroads without checking for oncoming traffic.
As further units flooded the area a stinger site was set up on the A19. A firearms officer deflated the vehicles tyres which helped bring it to a stop a short time later on Main Street in Riccall.
Multiple police units surrounded the vehicle and the driver was detained. A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for the police, resist arrest, dangerous driving, driving with no insurance or license. He currently remains in police custody.
Traffic Constable Matt Harvey from North Yorkshire Police said “ This behaviour is unacceptable and I’m grateful that no members of the public were hurt, and we have one under arrest
“Every night we are out and about patrolling the 6,000 miles of roads in the county. Although we can’t be everywhere we could be anywhere, and all our teams work together to be relentless in our approach to stop motorists who flout the law on North Yorkshire’s roads.“
