A man has been arrested today on suspicion of shop theft in Skipton.
We were alerted to the theft of food worth around £70 from a shop in the town centre at around 3pm.
Following a short foot pursuit, we arrested a local man in his 20s who has now been taken into custody.
We were carrying out foot patrols in Skipton town centre this afternoon to tackle retail theft and daytime antisocial behaviour.
Craven Neighbourhood Policing Team talked to shoppers and visited businesses to share crime prevention advice.
Shop crime often leads to other offences. So our high-visibility patrols aim to nip other crimes in the bud and deter known offenders from entering the town.
We also work closely with Skipton BID, sharing information across businesses.
Today’s arrest is one of several connected to retain theft in Craven in recent weeks.
A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of stealing from a shop in Skipton last week, and a man and woman have also been arrested within the last few weeks.
