We responded immediately to reports of an altercation on Low Petergate, York, shortly after 4.15pm today.
Four teenagers - one male, three female - were arrested by our officers, on suspicion of affray. They were taken into custody, and have since been released on police bail while our enquiries continue.
Such incidents in our city are rare, and completely unacceptable. Thank you to the members of the public in the area who alerted us, so we could respond decisively.
The area was busy at the time, and we are appealing for witnesses to come forward, especially anyone who filmed the incident. Please call North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting reference NYP-09032025-0346.
