Following extensive enquiries into the death of a 61-year-old woman at an address on Albert Street in York that was reported at 11.26am on Thursday (8 May 2025), detectives have confirmed that it was not suspicious.
A 53-year-old man arrested in connection with the investigation has been released with no further action required.
A report into the death is being prepared for the coroner. The woman’s family is being supported.

York: Suspicious death of woman aged in her 60s under investigation
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are investigating the suspicious death of a woman aged in her 60s who was reportedly found inside an address on Albert Street in York just before 11.30am today (Thursday 8 May 2025).
“A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the investigation and is being held in custody for questioning.
“We believe it was an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community.
“Nevertheless, we have stepped up reassurance patrols in the area while our enquiries continue at the scene.
“Anyone with information about the incident should contact North Yorkshire Police immediately on 101.
