Suspected Scarborough shoplifter arrested

Police were called to the Brunswick Shopping Centre in Scarborough at 5.30pm Monday 30 October 2017 by staff from JD Sports, regarding a 29-year-old man from Scarborough who was being detained on suspicion of theft of a number of items from the store.

Whilst being detained at the store the man was becoming increasingly violent and abusive towards staff.

Police arrived at the store at 5.35pm and whilst dealing with the man, he again became violent and abusive towards the officers.

He was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop, assault, assaulting a police officer and obstructing a police officer in the execution of their duty and was taken to Scarborough Police Station where he currently remains in police custody.
