****UPDATE**** Serious Collision A19

Police remain at the scene of the collision and it is expected the Northbound carriageway will remain closed for another hour at least.

The collision involved a silver Skodia Fabia and a white van.

We are now in a position to confirm that as a result of the collision, the driver of the Skoda, a woman in her eighties sadly died at the scene.

The driver of the van has been taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw either of the vehicles involved prior to the collision, to get in touch. Anyone with any Dashcam  footage is also asked to get in touch.

Emergency services are at the scene of a serious collision on the Northbound carriageway of the A19 at the A684 Ellerbeck Junction near Northallerton.

The incident happened shortly before 10am today, Friday 30 September,  and involved three vehicles.

The northbound carriageway has been closed and is expected to be closed for some time. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area.
