Wayne joined North Yorkshire Police in 2005 and served as a Response officer in York until May 2007, when he was seconded to the Pro-active Crime Team.
As a Detective Constable, Wayne was subsequently seconded to several major incident investigations, and between 2011-2013 performed a key role in a large-scale child exploitation enquiry.
Wayne was promoted to Detective Sergeant in 2013, and led several safeguarding teams through a significant period of change.
In 2017 Wayne was promoted to the rank of Detective Inspector, and led teams against the threat from rerrorism as the Head of Special Branch.
In 2019 Wayne was promoted to the rank of Detective Chief Inspector in the CNYMIT and led several high-profile homicide investigations in both Cleveland and North Yorkshire as part of a collaboration to tackle homicide and major crime. He was subsequently promoted to Detective Superintendent and took on the role as Head of Major Crime for NYP.
In 2023 Wayne was promoted to Detective Chief Superintendent, with responsibility for all Protective Services. In December 2023 Wayne took up the role as Temporary Assistant Chief Constable for Crime and Specialist Operations.
In his spare time Wayne enjoys keeping fit, listening to music and spending time with his wife and daughter.
