Don’t let a burglar steal your Christmas

The last thing you want to do in the lead up to Christmas is be worrying that a burglar is going to target your home. We've put together our top home security tips to follow during the festive period to help minimise the risk of a break-in.

  1. When you’re out, use a timer to turn lights and radios on and off to make it look like you’re home
  2. Hide all keys, including car keys, out of sight and away from the letterbox (remember a device could be used to hook keys through the letterbox)
  3. Remove presents from view of ground floor windows and hide all high value gifts, cash and valuables away
  4. Install good outside lighting and make sure the bulbs in your security lights are in working order
  5. Consider installing some CCTV for your home and put a sign up for intruders to see
  6. Always lock windows and doors every time you leave the house, even if you’re just going out for a short time
  7. Don’t post details on social media if you’re going to be away during the festive period
  8. If you’re going away ask a trusted neighbour to open and close your curtains each day.
  9. Get your gifts property marked and registered with our free Dot Peen property marking system
  10. Look out for your neighbours and report anything suspicious in your area.
